How To Insert hreflang Tag In Blogger & WordPress To Rank In Your Country

Introduced by Google, the ‘hreflang’ tag or ‘language tag’ is a code that allows your website to be indexed for a particular language or geodetic location. It tells search engine about the language you are using on your pages so that the people searching for result in that language will find you.

For example, if you have pages or articles on blog that are written on a specified language like French, Spanish, Nepali, etc. then use of hreflang tag will allow your site to be ranked for people who search a particular topic in that language or who live in that country. It helps you to reach geo-targeted audience in your territory or region. They can cause a version of website rank higher by defeating few of its SEO ranking factors.

How To Add Hreflang Tag On Blogspot

Hreflang tags can be placed inside the template of blogger websites just below <head> tag and before </head>. A sample of hreflang tag for blog written in English language is given below:

<link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href="http://www.example.com">

To target a specific region or country, use a similar tag as below (for United States):

<link rel="alternate" hreflang="en-us" href="http://www.example.com" >

To target audience living in United Kingdom that speak English , the following tag is appropriate:

<link rel="alternate" hreflang="en-uk" href="http://www.example.com" >

Similarly, if the language of your blog is written in Nepali then you should use following tag to target Nepali audience:

<link rel="alternate" hreflang="np" href="http://www.example.com" />

Note:Replace www.example.com with the URL of your website in above examples and paste the code between <head> and </head> tag on your blogger template.

How To Add Hreflang Tag On WordPress

Just like Blogspot, you should add language tag in the header of wordpress theme using default editor or ftp.

You can access the default editor from wp dashboard >> appearance >> editor. From the editor screen, choose “Theme Header (Header.php)” located at right hand side widget area. Then find <head> tag from the list of codes and paste the above hreflang tag just below it. Finally, “Save Changes” your settings and your blog is ready to rank.

Alternatively, you can use a free ftp client like CuteFTP or FileZilla to edit header.php file and paste the code in it.
